Buying A New TV - Philips 46PFL8505 It Is

Holy cow! I had promised that this time around I wouldn't spend days, nights, weeks agonising over which TV to get (as was the case last time around, goodness). So this time I really out-did myself.

After a couple of days researching, writing the first blog post, and a quick store check, I went back for a final snoop around the net - and to my big surprise (and most definitely my other half's surprise: he doesn't know yet, he is crusing the Death Road in Bolivia on a mountain bike as we speak) the newest member of the household has been ordered.

Turns out Philips has just released a new model, same as the best quality/value choice I had made previously (see my previously blog post) BUT without the glass screen surface - the 46PFL8505. Yes, went for the 46inch one in the end. The whole "what size to get issue" was quickly resolved with this logic - we watch all our channels through an HD box, so what's the harm, right? Yes, size DOES matter - whatever else men might say. Well then, cannot be seen as a shock that I clicked the purchase button as soon as I could! Goodness, totally excited :-) Here is a sneak preview:

And some specs to get your mouth watering (or not, that's ok):

  • 46" LED 3D
  • Full HD
  • 200hz
  • DVB-T/C MPEG4
  • HDMI x 4
  • 1 ms response
  • Perfect Pixel HD Engine
  • 20 W RMS and Incredible Surround speakers
  • 40% more energy efficient than other LED TVs
Note to those who read the previous post: the model number system again fails. The new and "improved" version of 46PFL8605 is 46PFL8505. Goes to show, some of those you cannot rely on. But on the excellent upside for me - we ended up with a 8xxx range model, almost at the top :-)

Tune in to see what is looks like when it finally arrives!
